Kipli Mattress Returns: Say No to Waste

To allow our customers to test their mattresses with complete peace of mind, we let them try them at home, free of charge, for a 100-night trial period. When switching mattresses, it often takes some time to adjust, and it’s ideal to have the chance to try it out over several nights. Sometimes a mattress doesn’t suit certain customers, and they return it to us. What happens to the mattresses our customers return to us?

At Kipli, waste is not an option

Mattresses returned by our customers during the 100-night trial period are often in very good condition, but they can no longer be sold. It’s therefore reasonable to wonder what will happen to these mattresses. At Kipli, throwing them away has never been an option: we are firmly opposed to waste and are constantly striving for a circular economy that benefits both people and the planet.

The challenge was to find a new use for these mattresses, a second life which would prevent these nearly new mattresses from ending up in a landfill or at a recycling center. In addition, there is a spirit of solidarity, which prompted us to focus on the nonprofit route and led us to the nonprofit organization Charitable Donations.

What does the Dons Solidaires organization do?

For more than 15 years, the Dons Solidaires nonprofit has been collecting non-food items from companies willing to donate and redistributing these items to people in need through a broad network of charitable organizations.

Recognized as a nonprofit serving the public interest, the organization operates in France with two goals: to minimize food waste and to combat poverty.Dons Solidaires collaborates with a wide range of organizations, from shelters to economic integration programs, as well as food pantries, day centers, and more. The recipients of these donations include, among others, isolated seniors, the working poor, refugees, recipients of basic social assistance, children at risk, women who are victims of violence, and single-parent families.

In 2019, Dons Solidaires helped 750, 000 people in need by distributing the equivalent of 47 million euros worth of goods. All of this was made possible by donations from 130 partner companies and the support of 660 nonprofit organizations. Thanks to Dons Solidaires, with whom we have a long-term partnership, all of our returned mattresses are made available to people in need.
